TidyText Offline Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 17, 2026

Overview

TidyText Offline is the desktop version of TidyText. It's built to stay private and work offline: your text is processed entirely on your device, there are no accounts, and the app only reaches the internet for two specific actions you trigger. The free web version (tidytext.cc) has its own policy at tidytext.cc/privacy.

How the app handles your text

All text processing happens locally on your device and works with no internet connection. The text you process is never sent anywhere.

The desktop build does not include Google Analytics or Sentry. They are stripped out of the app entirely.

When the app uses the internet

The app reaches the internet in only two situations, both tied to something you do:

  1. License activation, once, on first launch. The app sends your license key to Lemon Squeezy (our payment processor) to confirm your purchase. Lemon Squeezy returns whether the key is valid. As with any web request, Lemon Squeezy sees the IP address the request came from. This happens one time; after that the app runs offline.
  2. Update checks, only when you click “Check for Updates.” The app asks GitHub whether a newer version exists. GitHub sees your IP address and the version you're on. Nothing happens in the background, and nothing is sent unless you click the button.

No usage data, and never the text you process, is transmitted in either case.

Purchases (Lemon Squeezy)

When you buy TidyText Offline, the sale is handled by Lemon Squeezy, our payment processor and merchant of record. To process the payment and issue your license, Lemon Squeezy collects your name, email address, payment details, and IP address. Payment card details are handled entirely by Lemon Squeezy and never reach us.

We receive your email address and license key from Lemon Squeezy so we can deliver your license and help you with support. Your license key is what the app sends to Lemon Squeezy during the one-time activation described above. Lemon Squeezy's handling of your data is governed by its own privacy policy.

What we don't collect

We never collect:

  • The text you process. It stays on your device.
  • Account information, because there are no accounts.

We don't store your IP address ourselves or build a profile from it. Lemon Squeezy (at purchase and at first-launch activation) and GitHub (when you check for updates) see the IP address of those requests, as described above. That's the extent of it.

Feedback and support

We use a Google Form for feedback and support requests. If you submit it, it collects whatever you write, and, if you choose to include it, your email address so we can reply. Responses are stored in Google's systems and governed by Google's privacy policy. We use them only to respond to you and improve the product.
